[Concert Recap] Seventeen @ Lollapalooza

It has been over four years since Seventeen's first and so far only European tour was canceled due to the pandemic. As the group has gained significant popularity in the last four years, the 13-member group made it to two European festivals this year: Glastonbury in June and Lollapalooza Berlin in September.

KpopConcertsEurope was at Lollapalooza to see Jeonghan's last official performance before he enlists soon.

The fans' anticipation was so big that some began gathering in front of the festival grounds the evening before, camping on site. This led to a considerable crowd the next morning even before admission began. Unfortunately, the large turnout also brought challenges: Some attendees reported lost items during admission on social media. Despite these difficulties, the mood remained largely positive and expectant. Many fans exchanged freebies, made new friends, and showed off their self-made flags.

The presence of K-pop fans in front of the Main Stage South was impressive and demonstrated strong support for Seventeen. At the same time, fans of all performing artists enjoyed the diverse performances of the day. A special moment was when Carats showed their support with "호랑해" (horanghae) – an expression coined by Seventeen member Hoshi, meaning "I tiger you" and expressing love for the fans.

As the festival progressed, more people gathered on the side of the Main Stage South. It was fascinating to see how many people from all over the world came to see Seventeen one last time with 12 (instead of the usual 13 – Jun was in China at the time of the festival) members, as South Korea still has mandatory service that men must enter before their 30th birthday. Unfortunately, this means Jeonghan must serve as an active soldier from October, and the other members will gradually enter the army.

At around 6:40 PM, it was finally time, and Seventeen took the stage with their latest comeback hit "Super". The setlist was divided into three parts, starting with a powerful opening that included hits like "Super" and "Rock with You". In the second part, the group's various units showcased their skills. Not only did the Vocal Unit with "Cheers to Youth", Hip Hop Unit with "Fire", and the 3-member Performance Unit with "Spell" give their all on stage - Seventeen's subunit BSS (BooSeokSoon) performed their hit "Fighting" as well. All three members went on to rap Lee Youngji's part by themselves and did an absolutely fabulous job at that. Leader Line, consisting of S.Coups, Woozi, and Hoshi, sang "Cheers" and were supported by all members for their iconic 엉덩이 팡팡 choreography.

The third part and finale offered more highlights with songs like "Hot" and "God of Music". The setlist concluded, as with every Seventeen concert, with a 10-minute version of "AJU Nice", which not only shook the entire Olympic Stadium but also got a Carat to sing the well-known high note for a huge audience.

The crowd didn't want to let Seventeen go and cheered loudly for the 12 members who had finally made it to Berlin, even during their farewell. One last time, leader S.Coups shouted out the all-too-familiar "SAY THE NAME – SEVENTEEN!" before the concert, which so many fans had waited years for, came to an end.
